2017- Cautiously Optimistic

By Carolyn Nesbitt-Larking

Here’s to 2017 with the hope of goodwill and happiness to everyone. Along with some much needed gentleness and kindness. On a global scale, we could all do with a bit more of that.

I have always been cautiously optimistic about the world.  I admit that these past 12 months have tested me on more than one occasion, but I do have a strong sense there is much to be hopeful about.

I also firmly believe we don’t do ourselves any favours by keeping a myopic view.

It’s like the pendulum that swings backwards and forwards. Sometimes, when the pendulum swings backwards the swing goes a bit further than we are comfortable with. It is a reminder of the tensions that still exist between getting it right and making positive change. A reminder that we are all still works in progress, and that governments are no different. This is, the modern wake up call. The important work we all need to do is now, so when the forward swing takes place, when the necessary momentum occurs we will all bare witness to more positive change. That we are on the right path. We just have more work to do. Time and time again we have seen these shifts occur throughout history.

I told you. Cautiously Optimistic.
